Hi,

ive been a cricketer for about 8 years now, and i have recently been seeing great results batting at number 4 in the preliminary grades, and have now reached the premiers.

My first innings was an edgy 26, which is where i have found a few more areas to work on in order to accomodate for the increased pace, and increased skill from the bowlers.

The problem im facing is the pace. What can i do to increase my reaction time, or the time at which i pick the ball up from the bowler. I especially have problems with the short ball, but the full ball i can easily handle.

I think i was facing a bowler whos known to be in the 135-140 range, so what can i do in order to get my eye to pick up the ball?

Thanks for your time (IMG:http://abcofcricket.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Try a bowling machine. That way you can set the pace and the length you want to focus on.

Andrew has given good advice there, but if you cant get onto a machine, net practice to a few quicks bowling to instructions should suffice.

Also, under match conditions, try not to WANT to hit every ball a quick lets go at you. If you are having difficutlties with a particular bowler, getting behind the ball and continually blocking will assist or alternately if in no danger of an LBW let the ball go through to the keeper.

Make sure you look confident, any sign of nervousness when batting will be quickly picked up by the bowler and or opposing captain.
