The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently accepted an official request from Afghanistan, to include them in the Cornelius Trophy, a part of the PCB domestic competition that begins January 21, 2003. As a gesture of goodwill and in view of PCB's policy of promoting and assisting developing neighbouring countries, the PCB will also provide financial assistance to Afghanistan in addition to a qualified coach.
Afghanistan also participated in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-II Championship last season. The tournament has been renamed the Cornelius Trophy for the 2002-2003 season.
