Speculative reports that Sri Lankan spin wizard Muthiah Muralitharan, will not tour Australia for the coming tri-nations one day cricket series between Australia, England and Sri Lanka are wrong, according to Sri Lankan team captain Sanath Jayasuriya.
It is believed the speculation centres around reports that Muralitharan will avoid the tour, to ensure his bowling action does not once again come under the scrutiny of Australian umpires.
Previous tours to Australia in 1995 and 1998, have resulted in Muralitharan being called by the umpires for throwing, resulting in his bowling action coming under the further scrutiny of cricket authorities. Murali’s
bowling action was later cleared by International Cricket Council officials, who found his action to be unusual due to physical defects in his elbow, rather than the voluntary action, which could be classed as throwing.
Jayasuriya has been adamant that Muralitharan will take part in the tour and will definitely play in Australia.
